Genesis 11 Tower of Babel

The Tower of Babel is a story which functions more as an ancient myth than history.  This ziggurat that ascended up into the sky apparently threaten the Lord in the story as if people would be able to walk freely between heaven and earth.

Of course our modern sky scrapers are not in danger of breaking into heaven.   This story is about something else.  On the surface its about language development and culture.  People simply do not get along, i.e., they are in a struggle for power.  If people could share power, the story suggest humanity would be brilliant. But we fight for power and therefore push one another further and further away.
Babel is the “tic” for which Pentecost (Acts 2) is the “toc”. At Babel languages are scattered whereas the gift of Pentecost is the gift of once again understanding.

Pentecost is therefore going to have something to say about living in the kingdom of heaven on earth.
